1978 Colorado Golf Hall of Fame Inductee
If anyone had a dynamic career, it was Les Fowler, whose teachings almost matched his playing talents.
Les was 1954 Colorado Golf Association Match Play champion and runner-up three times; CGA Stroke Play champion in 1960, '62 and '68; CGA Senior Match Play champion in 1974, '75 and '79; Senior Stroke Play champion in 1978, '80, '83 and '89 and Boulder Country Club champion 17 times. His last CGA Senior Stroke Play title came at age 65.
Fowler was the volunteer University of Colorado golf coach from 1948-1977, with his top pupils being Hale Irwin and Dale Douglass, and Les served as president of the CGA in the mid-1990s. The former state senator played in nine U.S. Amateurs, twice was low amateur in the Colorado Open and competed in the first two U.S. Senior Opens.
