Phyllis "Tish" Preuss

Tish Preuss was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1939 and moved to Colorado Springs in 1970. Her accomplishments on a national level began in the early 1960s when she was runner-up in the 1961 U.S. Women's Amateur. In addition to that second-place finish, she twice reached the semifinals, in 1962 and 1967. Preuss finished as the low amateur in the U.S. Women's Open in 1963, 1968 and 1969. She won the Eastern Amateur in 1963, the Women's Southern Amateur in 1965 and 1968, and the North and South Amateur in 1964 and 1967.
Preuss was a member of five Curtis Cup Teams -- in 1962, 1964, 1966, 1968 and 1970. In 1984 she was selected to captain the Curtis Cup Team. That same year she was also selected as the Colorado Golf Hall of Fame Person of the Year.
Preuss competed successfully on a national level for four decades, playing in 21 U.S. Women's Amateurs between 1959 and 1981. In 1991, she won the USGA Senior Women's Amateur Championship at Pine Needles Resort in Southern Pines, N.C.
