Rick DeWitt

Inducted 2002

Rick DeWitt graduated from Regis High School in 1975 and also attended Red Rocks Community College. Few golfers have dominated their generation as Rick did. A 27-year member of the Colorado Golf Association, Rick has been the CGA’s Player of the Year no fewer than six times. That’s just one of the many golf-related accomplishments for the Arvada resident and president of Augusta Construction, Inc.

Rick began playing golf at age 12 after driving the golf cart for his dad. Just two short years after that introduction to the game, a course opened near Rick’s home, and he played as much golf as he could. He’s been a force on the golf course ever since.

His major accomplishments include: CGA Player of the Year 1991, ‘95, ‘96, ‘98, ‘99, 2006; CGA Mid-Amateur titles in 1991, ’94, ’96, ’99, 2000, ’01, ’02; CGA Stroke Play champion 1999; and CGA Public Links champion 1999. He was on the amateur Colorado Cup Team 21 consecutive years from 1986-2006 and competed in the Colorado Open every one of those years. Rick has also qualified for a U.S. Senior Open, three U.S. Amateurs, eight U.S. Mid-Amateurs, five U.S. Amateur Public Links and five U.S. State Team Championships. He also represented Colorado at the Pacific Coast Amateur seven times before turning pro in 2006.

Rick’s unique pre-shot alignment routine has brought him and his game to the media’s attention. He was featured as one of the nation’s top amateurs in the May 4, 2002 issue of Golfweek and in a 2000 USGA Golf Journal, where his routine was highlighted. It involves placing a club on the ground to aid with his shot alignment, and then he has the club removed by his caddie prior to hitting.

How appropriate, then, that Rick is in construction, because has built quite an impressive golf record.
